I use this function during sensor cleaning.
Otherwise, the camera will 'save' a very large 'all-white photo' after the sensor cleaning process.

Wait what? I don't think any of my cameras record an image when I do a manual clean.

Maybe I'm missing the point, but so what?
Deleting an image is less of a problem than potentially bending pins, I'd have thought.

That's strange! None of mine have ever recorded an image while in sensor clean mode.

Ummm, you are using sensor clean mode instead of just taking a shot in bulb mode, right?

Bulb mode and manually swept clean the sensor; sorry for misleading your guy.

Deleting is quick; but 'saving' image with the older EOS 400D can take up to 5-15 seconds.

To each his own, I guess.

Just to satisfy my curiosity, though, can you tell me why you use bulb mode instead of sensor clean mode?

Slow hand and 'poor' eye-sign (getting old :-) )
Most important: take time and don't want to scratch the sensor.
Thanks for the tip: should use sensor clean mode anyway

That's why sensor clean mode is better. You're not recording any data and the shutter stays open until you're done...

Doesn't the sensor become a dust magnet when the camera is on and no lens or cap is in place?

But having your sensor recording an image in Bulb mode does make it attract more dust then having it stay idle in sensor clean mode.

As far as i know.

I guess it could if you're doing this on a gravel road ;) Probably wouldn't be a good time to smoke a ciggie (or whatever), either.
