Four of Canon's 50mm lenses...

Nice, but would be even better if you could include a 50mm 1.8 Mk I and make it five. :D

I thought the smallest lens was the 1.8 lens. What is the smallest lens in that photo?

Nice!

The 1.0 is very similar in size to the 85L.

iPhone shot here of them both mounted on 5D2's gives a fairly good comparison.

I didn't realise the f1.1 was that much bigger than the 1.2. At a quick glance you could mistake it for the 85mm

It uses the same size outer barrel as the 85mm and also the same focus-by-wire system, they both came out at the same time where as the f/1.2 wasn't until 17 years later. You'll probably never see a faster 50mm or a longer lens as fast due to the rear element being as large as possible with the EF mount, the electrical contacts actually stick out over it just like the 85mm f/1.2. I assume this is also the reason Nikon doesn't have such fast lenses at these lengths due to their tiny mount, although they have had in the past.

To keep the trend of the lenses getting slower and to avoid having duplicates he could get the 50mm f/2.8 Macro.

7 reasons why the EF 50mm 1.8 Mk I is better than the EF 50mm 1.8 Mk II:

It has....

1) Metal mount
2) Focus distance scale
3) Depth-of-field scale
4) Better build quality (same as the EF 28mm 2.8 and EF 35mm 2.0)
5) Proper manual focus ring on lens barrel (is not at the front of the lens)
6) Focus ring does not rotate when in AF
7) Can accept a EW-65, ES-65 or ET-65 lens hood (doesn't require a threaded adapter like the Mk II)

I'm staying out of this one... :D

lol... i didn't mean to say it in a bad way. I'm not criticizing his gear. just that the L looks out of place in a group of non L's... thats a better way of putting it.

but soon the addiction will begin and the L will suddenly be in a gang of other L's... and you'll be broke.

neutral wrote in post #13486168 (external link)
Oddly enough, I've never used the 100L yet :o (except to make sure it works)

you should use it. I use to own one for a while. its a great lens... sharp too.
