Great work on the 18-55L Mike. It looks really professional. I expect you've also doubled its resale value, not to mention the colours and sharpness that come with the red ring!

I inherited a couple of 18-55 IS lenses as part of a trade. One of them was missing the silver ring at near the front and it looked kind of naked. I tried to think of a way to make up for the missing silver ring and decided a red ring would be the easiest. The groove is about 1/16" wide and I had some white strip styrene from an HO model Railroading ladder kit that fit perfectly. I also had some Tamiya "clear red" acrylic paint and when brushed on the white styrene, it seemed to match the red ring on my 24-105 quite well.



It actually looks very legitimate, much better than the ones that simply have a painted ring.
