I was messing around tonight with a laser level and a ceiling fan and came up with the photos below. I used a laser level in "line mode" and moved it back and forth at different speeds across the fan.

Now, can you process these like an IR photo?
These could be some real artistic pieces.
Very cool, still not sure how you did it, but very cool.

That's really quite fascinating, nice one :)

I would say try it with aeroplanes but pointing lasers and cameras at them is likely to end in actual physical tears :D

This is really quite interesting, but I have a question. If you were doing this by hand (the laser), how did you make the shapes and lines so perfectly equal and concentric? When people do light painting by hand, it usually looks quite messy, but your sections / strokes here are perfect. (Well done, by the way!)

I was using a laser level which also can produce a line or cross-shaped beam in addition to a single laser point. For these shots I set up the unit to produce a line and then swept it across the fan just once during the exposure. By varying the rate at which I swept the laser line across the fan, I could produce different patterns.
