I'll play:
1 year ago I had a 40D with kit 28-135mm lens and a 1D MK1 with a 50mm 1.8 II.
Today I've got a 1D MKIV with a 24-105mmL, a 15mm and another 50mm 1.8 II.

WOW What a jump

A year ago I owned: tamron 28-75, tokina 11-16, canon 50mm 1.8 - all sold (them easily to my surprise, didn't lose money on them)
New lenses added this year: 100L and 35mm F2

2009 about this time I had a 40D. I upgraded that to the 5D Mk II not long after.

As time has passed, I now own a 1Ds Mk III & 7D, a fun little combo...and still can't photograph worth two wooden nickels! LOL

I've since rid myself of the 7D to reunite with the 5D Mk II.

Nothing. I had given up on photography. Was bored of it because I had spent three years learning it in school.

I had a girfriend and borrowed her 50d on a trip to london. Snapped away, ditched the girl bought the camera. Now I do some freelancing on the side of my job. Applied to read another semester learning about photography.

A year ago, I had a Rebel XS with a 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 kit lens, a 50mm f/1.8 II (nifty-fifty), and, a Nissin Di622 external flash!

Now, I have a Canon 7D with a borrowed 16-35mm f/2.8L lens. I will soon be purchasing a lens. So far, I'm leaning towards a Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 non-VC. Let's see where I end up. :)

A year ago I had the exact same stuff I have now. When everything is working well, you have no desire to buy more or upgrade anything. :)
