It seems that does pics would be very nice, if the focus was spot on. All of them are blured, watch out also for the aperture F29  what i'm amazed is how clean is your sensor lol

not sure how to respond to that comment CyberManiaK.... but will have a go anyways...

you have noted the f-stop on one of the images, so you probably checked out their individual properties?

in all except one image the shutter speed was lower than the lens focal length and shot on a curve which resulted in a visual impression of speed, where there wasn't really much at all... apparently there is a relationship between focal plane, focal length and shutter speed (not sure of the technical term, but pretty sure someone else can help with it or even help with a clearer explaination) which changes the actual point of focus through the pan and the slower the shutter speed/focal length relationship, less of the subject is in focus (I think).

...my opinion only, but a straight pan for me is now quite easy to do, with wheel blur my main aim:

Hi don't know if you shoot motorsport, but if you do you should look at these shots and learn. Don't know about the rest of the world but in Australia we like to push the boundaries and try for a different look (sharp and clean is not always the goal) action and drama is what we try to capture. I'm sure most motorsport shooters where ever they are from try to do the same.
Your allowed not to like them and to offer CC but look again and see what the shooter was trying to do.
JoC Hi like what you are trying but think the first two images would of worked better with more colour in the back ground (crowed etc) not sure about the composition of the first ether.

Thanks Steve

Good job Wayne
I'll echo Atky's comments - not a lot wrong with these at all.
Also with the first pic, it looks like you were shooting through a chainlink fence as well.
Cyber, to go to as slow a shutterspeed as he has, I'm guessing about 1/20sec in full sun, using f29 is about the only option he had to pull some of these off.

I reckon Karts are incredibly hard to shoot well, because they dont do much for me in the first place, despite the racing being close and fast.
These are done well, and can see where Jonesey was going with them.
No crit from me,because I know nothing about shooting them.

thanks Atky, Phil and Chris for your comments.

certainly agree that the first one was/is a bit of a poor effort, as I originally had this one lined up for posting:

IMAGE NOT FOUND
HTTP response: 404 | MIME changed to 'text/html' | Byte size: ZERO

... but thought I'd post #1 instead as it was "different". (manual focus and through a @2*$ fence!)

as an amature, I certainly appeciate the time you all make to comment and as I don't mind attempting the unusual I take your words on board and hopefully my photographic skill levels improve along the way.

as a bit of a footnote, I received word from the guy racing the kart in #2 that no one had ever taken/posted a photo of him racing before, so he was pretty happy.

cheers all

Can't agree with that comment at all.
There is nothing wrong with the image.
You need to understand what is actually occuring during the exposure and people who say that it's blurry etc don't understand what has occured either.
To get the sense of movent with that shot, there isn't anything more you could have done.
If you look closely at the image, the helmet is sharp.
The blur is not from camera shake but the laws of physics at work and with the shutter speed as slow as it was, there was never going to be much of the kart that remained sharp.
As it went through the corner, the kart was moving through several planes during the exposure and therefore different parts of the kart were moving at different rates to the "film" (sensor) plane while the exposure was being made.
The only way to make the image sharp is to use a faster shutter speed, but you would lose the effect that you achieved.
Have a read of this https://photography-on-the.net …=487139&highlight=how+can to get a better explanation and understanding of what is going on.

Perhaps you should see how sharp the helmet is on no. 1. Or maybe the driver in no.4.
I think Great job, and phil I was looking for that same article until I saw you beat me to it.

Thanks
Geoff

haha...me too.
It, by far, is the best and most simple, easy to understand, explanation of what occurs that I have come across anywhere.
