So im getting ready to jump from my old sony F707 to a new and shinny Rebel XT (which I'm going to order after labor day). Something I've noticed in my travels while looking for the best price and what not, is that all the big chain stores (Best Buy, Circuit City, Etc) only seem to carry the XT in silver, while alot of the online stores sell both but the black ones cast about $20-$50 more. Just wondering why there is such a big diffrence in the color of the cam. Is it a diffrent body (plastic vs metal) or does the black just look more professional like there higher end models? or am i really just making too big a deal about it and should just get the darn thing in what ever color is cheaper :)

I'm not an expert, but I looked at the XT yesterday, both black and silver and they were the same.

Do you know where you are buying from? I'm looking for one too and have been shopping around..

Dell is selling the silver body for $719.20 w/this coupon code: TJW7ZKSXS8F6T7

It's just a color preference. There's no difference in the bodies at all.

I have both a black 350D/XT and a silver one too. No difference at all, some people think the black is better because it looks more professional. Really it doesn't matter I can't say the photos out of the black camera look more professional lol. Both the same, choice is yours. If it was me I would buy whatever was cheaper. I think I prefer the finish on my silver one myself.

The black is matte and feels better to me, the silver is kind of cheesy and shiny.

Black ones are the same price as the silver ones here. The black ones look way better.

yea but the 812 is for the kit with the 18-55 lens,

if you got that deal from dell, then got the 18-55 lens, it would probably work out to be 812ish anyways.

Personally, I'd just go with the cheapest one you could find (at a decent retailer) regardless of color. I have a silver one, and I like it a little more than the black.

IMO, Black does look more professional. But the XT isn't a professional DSLR... and you have to remember, everyone has their own thing. So just do what feels right to you, I'ts an amazing camera.

One of the things I didn't like about my old Sony was the reflective silver color.
