i hate how the black ones are like 20-50 bucks more....

When I bought my XT, I went looking for the silver. The salesman talked me into the Black, and boy am I ever glad he did. Not long ago I decided to switch to a 20D and everyone I talked to about buying the XT would ask if it was silver or black. The black was what everyone wanted since it looks more professional.

Silver looks more like a toy

I just sold my Silver XT with Lens kit for $800. I ordered a black body soon after for $752 from Buydig.com. Now im wondering if I should cancel my order and look for a used 20D for around $1100.

Im loosing sleep over this damn it.

If you work as a pro or semi pro get the 20D. If you don't the 350D is fine. No need to lose sleep over tools, you can always sell whatever you get later and get what you really want anyway.

IMO, Black does look more professional. But the XT isn't a professional DSLR...

Shhhh! Don't tell that to any of the publishers I've sold photos to in the past 5 months. ;)

 Hehe, just because it's not professional doesn't mean you can't make money with it ;)

It is quite a nice camera indeed. But I'm still not going near a 20D... I know if I touch it I'll want it

True.

I just think sometimes people get hung up on labels. You need the 'better' camera, you need the L glass. You're going to want the black camera - it looks more professional.

Quite simply, it's not true. You just need what will work for you.

I spent less than $1500 on my set-up in March (and one of the lenses I use regularly is the kit lens *gasp*) - as of today, I've cleared three times my investment selling photos (and I don't do stuff like weddings and kids teams, etc. - all books, magazines, calendars, advertisements)

If I had followed conventional thought, I'd have bought the 20D at worst and loaded up with L quality glass. Heck, I'd probably just about have broken even at this point.

Don't get me wrong, great equipment is fun to have and can only improve your shots, but I often wonder how many people are led to believe they need the very best they can afford because the truth is very few really need it - they just want it.

I agree with you on that one :)

I'm always on B&H thinking "Damn I wish I had enough for the 70-200 f2.8 L IS" but there are very few situations where I would actually need it, my f4 cuts it just fine right now!

My lenses aren't top of the line but there "up there" and the whole reason I got them is because I just found it motivating to know that I am the weakest link in the chain now.

No matter what hobby it is there will always be people who try to buy skill, and whatnot. I'm just trying not to become one of them :o

I have a 300d (in silver) and believe me- once I stick my 70-200 f4 L on there everyone thinks you're a pro and nobody thinks its a toy ;)

but seriously, i think a lot of people make way too big a deal about the color. If $50 is chump change to you and you want a black one, go for it. growing up in a thrifty (ok, cheap) irish household, i think its silly to spend $50 extra for a different color.

then again if the black one will make you that much more smitten with the camera, by all means spend the extra $ :D

I have a silver one and would not spend extra money for a black one BUT had there been a black one, for the same price, I would have picked it.

No one has looked at my camera and said, "nice toy"

Well just got back in town and decided to go with the cheaper silver version. It should be here in a few days, can't wait to start snapping pics with this camera.
