Is there a way to remove exif data from RAW files without converting them to JPG (so the files remain RAW files) ?

I'm pretty sure all the data in a raw file -- image data and metadata -- is read-only.

Just use an exif editor.

There are plenty to chose from.

I don't think you can easily remove exif data from a raw file. It's probably possible, but i've never heard of anyone trying before. I can't think of a good reason either, if you want to strip exif give a tiff or jpeg file.

Link to one that will remove exif data from a raw file. I'd be interested to see that.

Well EXIFTools works on RAW files, but I don't know if it can strip exif from them.

You said "Just use an exif editor" to remove exif from raw files. I got the impression you knew what you were talking about. My mistake.

I never said that, Mark did. Mark and I are different people. Surprising, I know, but true.

Mark got it wrong. Sorry, I clicked on the wrong button when I replied.

I think the bottom line is: You cannot alter the exif data in a raw file.

Hey, Tim's Forum Bingo game could have another section where people accidentally make goofy replies and someone has to answer with "Maybe you should read the thread/post before posting an answer!":)!

You might want to get back to us as to what exactly your are trying to do, what purpose? I'd imagine that to just "remove the exif" from a Raw file would destroy its usability. There may be things you can do in something like ExifTools that Tim mentioned but total removal of the Exif will, well, like I said trash the file. If you want to really experiment, make a copy of your Raw file and then convert it to a text file (in Windows you can right-click it and choose Rename, then give it a name with the .txt extension. If you then open it in a text editor you will see, well, a bunch of text. You could browse it or do searches for key exif words and see how they are used, but if you just tried to delete all the Exif sections, well, it would get messy fast:)! For one thing you'd get some file corruption right off the bat if you didn't understand the format of the Raw file for storing certain file values like file size (numbers of bytes) and such.
