I have been using my 20D for about a year now with a 580EX. However, the past week, the 580EX never fit solidly on the camera. I found out today that the little metal bracket that the tabs of the 580EX slide into, is loose.

It seems that now if I want the flash to register properly, I have to hold the flash back, or else the loose metal bracket makes it lean forward and disconnects the back two contacts.

Has anyone else experienced this problem and found a solution? Such as maybe tape? I don't really have the time to send it to Canon...the wait time is more than a week generally, right? (I live in Cali, so I could drop it off at Irvine...not sure how long it takes)

Theres screws under the plate, i believe you have to slide the cover off and tighten the screws, That's how it is with most cams. Let someone with the 20D confirm though. But either way, Easy fix. Good luck.

Why not call Irvine and arrange that they fix it while you wait.

A search revealed this thread, where Scott Berger describes the procedure for tightening the hotshoe. Hope it's what you're looking for.
