I just upgraded my 70-200mm IS to Mark II and now it's time to sell my MKI, and I was wondering if it would help with the price if I get the lens cleaned and serviced by Canon before selling it or I should just sell it as is, The lens code is UV. The lens is in perfect condition without any nicks and no issue what so ever. Any thoughts here ?? Thanks Sean

I would think not. Many people factor the price of a service into the price they'd pay for used camera gear. Furthermore, if you disclose such a new lens has been serviced most will assume it's been damaged.

I wouldn't. If the lens is as you say it is, and there aren't any issues with the IQ, what's the point? You'll be out close to $200 give or take, and no way to recoup that on the selling price. There's also the possibility that Canon could introduce a problem where none existed originally.

Best bet is to clean it up yourself, fully disclose it's benefits and faults, and include images of what you get from it. Example - you might find a buyer who just needs a backup lens and does not care about cosmetics so long as it delvers what it's supposed to. Or if it's in good shape, it becomes more attractive to the general photographer's market. I would not put money into the lens as people will beat your price down regardless. If you put the lens up for $10.00, someone's going to offer you $9.00 just because. :)

Like others have said, you won't recoup the money you spend on servicing.
