Beachtek audio adapter for SLR

i just saw this in the new B&H catalogue and was wondering if anyone has used this with their SLR and what they felt about it. i read a few reviews and the feedback was pretty good. i thought it would be a good combo with a shotgun mic rather than limiting myself to a rail mic

I have used both models of the beachtek under many conditions and have gone back to using the zoom h4n and syncing with plural eyes. With the beachtek I always had a steady hum (it is supposed to be there as part of tricking the 7d's agc) and then I'd have to remove it in either premiere pro or soundbooth. I have found it easier to use the zoom and sync with plural eyes.

Also with the zoom you have 4 channels so if you need a shotgun mic, 2 lav's, and then something for ambient you are covered.
