Were those taken in Merrickville? The Camaro has a Tripower set up if they were, plus A/C making it pretty unique. I've got a shot of the engine.

Thanks for comments djdino and cicopo.
...and yes cicopo, it is Merrickville...and why am I not surprised that you don't have a photo of the engine....taken from a R/C helicopter?

NO. Taken because I like the car & restore them for a living. Man it was hot that day.

Red Line tires as they were called were a big thing back in the day. My '67 GTO came with Firestone Wide Ovals with the Red Line. The darn things lasted less than 6K miles, as I remember. In those days the cross section of a tire was not described as a numeric (as in 255), but as an alpha (as in F). As I recall, my tires were F70/15. As in todays tires, the 70 was the aspect ratio and the 15 was the wheel diameter. And no they weren't radials, or even bias belted.

Thanks for the info lowrider - so these were mainly for show not go, eh. I would have stuck with white given the colour of the car...now if the car was black or red, hec yes. :)

(cicopo - it was a friendly neighbor joke - I have seen your hobbies)

Oh I realized that. You got a much nicer photo of the car than I did but my engine shot turned out OK. The sun just wasn't in the right place when we were there, & it was a really nice car.

My '67 GTO was a Pea Green. And you're right the redlines looked terrible on it. The wider tread did make a pretext to better handling, but the technology of the day certainly wasn't even close to modern standards.

but the technology of the day certainly wasn't even close to modern standards.

Does anyone remember "US Royal Safety 800"s? Detroit put crap tires on cars. Most people didn't have a clue how bad they were until they had to make a panic stop from 55mph. In the late '50s the Pirelli Cinturato was the racing/rally tire of choice because of it's superior performance in the rain. Not a bad thing to have on our oil soaked roads when those first drops of water hit. I had the dealership mount my used Pirelli Cinturato "S" tires on my 'Cuda & told them to put their "Blue Streaks" on my trade in.
The technology existed. It just didn't come from Detroit.
