I just noticed that if I convert an image from RAW using EVU I get a file that is much smaller than the same RAW file converted using ACR (anywhere from 30% to 40% smaller).

The settings seem to be essentially the same for both, i.e., sharpening is off and maximum quality has been selected for the conversion for both applications (EVU: Quality = 4; ACR: Quality = 12/Maximum).

Does anyone know the reason for the difference?

Different algorithms give different size files. Maybe one's much better at compression, maybe the other leaves more detail. Convert them at max and see if you can spot any difference, if not, use whichever you like better.

I'm not looking to change from ACR, but am just making sure I have everything set properly to maximize the quality of the jpegs. Even if EVU produces a jpeg with more information than ACR I would rather switch to outputting Tiff's than to use another RAW converter.
