It was the Edinburgh fireworks tonight, which is held at the end of the Festival, attended by around 250,000 people, and is the largest fireworks display in Europe. These were taken from behind the castle on Bruntsfield links.

One of these years I'll be there to witness first hand... I love the silhouettes below!

Thanks Andrew. The main building in the silhouette is Edinburgh Castle, and apparently over 100,000 fireworks were set off.

The best place to see the show is from Princes Gardens or Princes Street which are both on the other side of the castle from where I was standing. While that side is a lot busier, you can see displays such as the waterfall of white fireworks that come down the cliffs from the castle walls.

EXCELLENT FIREWORKS SHOTS!

Can you specify what camera did you use and at what settings did you take the pictures?

It would help me to know that when the opportunity of shooting fireworks presents itself.:D

Thank you in advance.

Thanks Suedezu. :)

The photos were taken on a 350D with a 70-200 f4 L lens at about 70mm. It was on manual and the shots were around 10 secs at f18. I'm at work at the moment, but I'll confirm these when I get home.

Thanks Dan. :)

It had been a very nice and clear day, but by the time the fireworks were due to start, there was some haar forming and I had visions of just seeing the fireworks disappearing into clouds. Fortunately it didn't get too bad.

I was in Edinburgh back last October. I wish I had a better camera back then because I love the architecture there... the city has so much character. I've been hooked on Ian Rankin novels ever since :)

Not trying to hijack your thread, but I managed to capture this angle of the Castle :)

It was nice and clear while I was in the city for 2 days! Only rain I had while in Scotland was going through Inverness... both times!

Very nice...mine didn't turn out that nice...but then again our towns budget doesn't allow for such fancy fireworks. ;o)

Hijack away! :D Having just recently got my 350D and 70-200L, I've been wanting to go into town and get some good shots myself.

Thanks saqib :) Although I managed to get the castle in silhouette, I would have liked to get a bit more of the nearer buildings too. However, there were street lights throughout the park, and the angle the photos were taken at was as low as I could go without getting one particularly near and annoyingly bright light in the way.
