As soon as I checked B&H Photo's website, I saw they had a used 9+ 85 f/1.8 for $299 so I picked it up. I sure am hoping it's a great copy. Should be here by friday.

I bought a 8+ from from B&H for 279.00 a few months ago and it was perfect...no box...but perfect

Nikon D850 and a bunch of stuff, I have learned a lot here when I was shooting Canon, staying to keep learning..."Every time I set up I learn something new".

I think you made a good choice with the 85. If you are courtside/baseline the 100 would mostly likely be too long. I shoot my nephew's basketball games with the 85 and sometimes at the baseline it's still a little too long, and most of these kids are under 5' tall.

agreed on the 85 call. I've owned both (twice each) and have the 85 now. Bottom line, I find I use the 85 often while the 100 used to sit in the bag far too often. IQ wise, its a push.

Not to go off topic, but from what I hear KEH grades their used equipment very conservatively which is good for us buyers. I've been thinking about selling my 1DMII and getting a 1DS to compliment my 7D. I just wish they had a bigger lens collection to choose from whenever I look at their site.

I've only got the one experience with them.....but I bought mine as a 'bargain' lens. I swear you couldn't tell it's even been used.

A couple of guys I know suggested I look at their bargain stuff, and at least for the one purchase, it certainly was a bargain for me!

The only worry I had was with having the 50 f/1.8 II already, the 85 might have been a little to close vs vs the 100 doubling the FL. But I couldn't pass up that kind of buy with how close you and everyone else says they are image wise.
Should be here tomorrow, so I'm pretty excited.

I have both the 50 1.8II and just recently picked up a 85 1.8 and they compliment each other very well. I had the same thought going through my mind but it works very well, especially if you have limited space when working in smaller area like indoors.

you'll make money if you decide to sell it for the 100 so go ahead and have some fun and see what you think. Everyone's style is obviously different so its the only way to find out. Personally, I shoot very little in the "normal" range so I usually have a gap in my lineup from the wide end out to the start of telephoto. Others couldn't imagine that. Anxious to hear your impressions although I have a feeling I know already!

Hi all first post, albeit old thread.
Apropos though as the above is the exact thing I was debating and the reason I searched 85mm vs 100mm

I too will look to purchase used. Cameta Camera is right down the rd from me as is Berger Bros although I usually find myself in the former.

Have you looked into the EF 100 F2.8 L Macro?

Thank you.

A little. Matter of fact I'm unsure of which to get. Although had there been a used 85 at the store yesterday I would have purchased it.
Obviously I love taking portraits.
The 100 has the macro capabilities over the 85?

I've just heard so much about how loved the 85 is. I love my 50 and as a guy just starting out changed everything for me.

So........could you sing some praises for it? Would love to hear some personal preferences and recommendations.

Thanks
