Yesterday I went up to Hawk's studio so we could do some comparing.
He had a model and had spent time with her using his Eli and other modifiers.

When I arrived I quickly setup the Pro Studio Solutions Octabox with both diffusion panels for him to try. I have also added a 6" convex mirror to block the flash tube from the front of the box.

I don't remember exactly what settings he had on the lights but they were well below full power. In the first image the front of the octa is probably 3 feet from Jenny.

That's the only light.

In the second image, we added an 86" PLM to the D-Lite 200 that had been the kicker.
Its about 3 feet from Jenny. The octa is acting as a front fill and there is another D-Lite camera right and behind the model with a strip box on it.

Exposures are F8. The PLM moded D-Lite 200 is at about 30 to get that reading. Not being an Eli user I'm not sure but I think that's three stops down from full.

I'm sure Hawk will have something to add. Hopefully he will have a better recollection of the light settings.

And here is one with the Octi as main, camera left with an ABR800 for fill. There is a 36" Moon Unit on the ABR.

David, if I remember correctly, the Dlite 4 was on power level 3.0. I can never remember what the ratio is at what power level... Rob? :)

And in the second image, I think the PLM was about 4.5 ft from her, if we're trying to be specific. We didn't measure, but I know my studio pretty well ;) also, the PLM was on a D2, set about 3.0 like David said.

Thanks.
I forgot that the octa was on a D4.

I definitely defer to you on distances in your studio.

yeah- we had the DO on the D4, and PLM on the D2. Shot all my images with the DO on F8, iso 100, 1/100th or so.

Here's the link to David's DO-clone. For that price, I'm buying one SOON!

Here (external link) is the link for the grid.
Also, if one clicks on the Pro Studio Solutions link right under the product description it takes you to the page with all the products. Different adapter options, grids and different sized octa, strip, etc.
The EZ Pro in the title means it has the umbrella type folding mechanism. More important, from my view, it also means it will have the beauty dish disk to offer another modifier option along with the diffusion panels and grids.

I'm thinking two of the 12x56 strip boxes will make nice kickers Hawk :-)

Hi Guys,

Maybe I missed something but I thought that the idea behind this test/experiment was to compare the off-brand 39 deep octa to the Elinchrom 39" Deep Octa. Seeing images shot with the off-brand doesn't give us any way or anything to compare.

you missed the comment I posted in the other thread... I don't have the ELi DO, nor does David

No, I didn't miss that Geoff. This all started because we were discussing the idea of the two modifiers producing similar qualities of light and so the idea of a comparison came up. I thought that was why you were getting together but didn't quite understand what you were actually comparing or testing if neither one of you had or could get your hands on the Elinchrom Deep Octa.

right. no real comparison potential, so we just got together. Maybe Dave can recant his original statement and proffer a new one.

Rob,
I still want to do a head-to-head, just have to find a way to get my hands on an Eli DO.
I am hoping there may be a way to do that via Helix or Calumet.
If there is anyone in metro Chicago with a DO and monitoring this that would make it that much easier.
