I can't seem to find any info on CPS purchase discounts other than they exist. Would this only apply if buying from Canon directly ?

you can buy it at registered canon dealers. CPS does not advertise that they have CPS pricing or else everyone will go for it when membership was free - that was a long time ago.

All registered canon retailers should have a CPS pricing list, a cost pricing, and a MSRP pricing. I'm going to let you know that the CPS pricing is very attractive. It'll force you to add more and more lenses to your WANT list.

After paying $100, you get a logo hat, excellent logo camera strap, date book, pin, pen, EF lens cap, and a E body cap cleaning cloth and a bunch of pre addressed shipping labels so you can send stuff to Canon.

As a platinum member, you get the EF work lens book. Unfortunately, Canon Canada does not give out free vouchers for cleaning and checking. I need my 5DII and 85L cleaned. HAHA.

Thank Marlon, Maxdave Bohdank for all the inputs with the details.
When I called Canadian CSR for the details and the person could not provide more details then what's on the page which I already knew.

Marlon: How attractive the Canadian CPS price list if you could give an example?

Too bad, Canadian CLP really sucks compared to the US one.

CPS does not advertise that they have CPS pricing or else everyone will go for it when membership was free - that was a long time ago.

However, back when CPS was free, you had to prove that your sole source of income was from photography (gear, photo samples, business cards, website, etc.). This weeded out most amateurs & GWC's.

Despite the fact that I have more than enough gear to qualify, I have issues paying for something that I've had free for years. I haven't signed up for the new program. I may when it comes time to upgrade a body but, until then, not likely. I just don't see the value.

...definitely!!!

You have to buy more gear to qualify, and that is always good.

I would love to join CPS, but I do not do this as a living or make income from it (yet). Out of luck to join?

I'd love to become a member, however, photography is not my job :-(

the cleanings and discounts on repairs would be well worth the $100 fee for me.

funny if people are on the fence about it because of the fee...you can easily sell your CPS strap on eBay for right around $100 and people will buy it.

You need 2 bodies, and you're supposed to be earning at least part time income from photography, so...

Is not like you need to send in your tax return to prove your income status.....

I just read where, for Canada, it states part-time or full-time photographer...

for the USA membership, you have to be a full-time photographer.

that stinks...

I've been a CPS canada member for years. I've had terrible service from them. They don't fix anything and just return it all as "within spec". I hate those two words.

It took them over 5 months for them to address my 1D issues, and they wouldn't even give me a loaner body. The finally gave in after 4 months of pleading with them. How are you supposed to pay bills when CPS holds your gear for 5 months and doesn't want to give you a loaner?

Then they announced they closed down two of the three service centres. (Great, LESS people working on fixing stuff)

Then they announced you had to pay yearly. There is NO WAY I am paying for that bullcrap non-service.

The ONLY reason I would buy a membership is if I am going to make some big gear purchases where the CPS discount would be greater than the membership fee. For example, my 1Ds3 was $500 cheaper through CPS discount. But I don't know what their CPS price discounts are like nowadays. It wouldn't surprise me if they ruined that system too.
