I think I have found out how to use Iris to remove light pollution.

I started from the Processing your image section. It is a stack of 12 lights and 11 darks.
This is my attempt at capturing the area around Sadr last night.

I know the stars are a bit oval, I left the timing on 8 seconds instead of 6 by mistake. It was taken at 1600 ISO, above the 350D's recommended. 55mm kit lens. I think the cold weather has improved the seeing conditions. If only the lights were out.
