My macros cant compare to the amazing ones I've seen here (I'd love to know how to do better) but I am posting this more because it's an unsual and interesting looking fly.

A few years ago, before I had a camera of my own I posted a pic of a freaky fly who buzzed around me and it was so sluggish I swatted it and accidentally killed it. I'd never seen anything like it so I took a photo and eventually posted the actual fly off to the museum, never heard another thing from them about it. Here's the pic from then.

Well today I saw another one, not exactly the same, the first one had an exact heart shape on its bottom. I suspect it's just individual variation, I think it's probably the same species. I've not seen one since that first one years ago.

Has anyone else seen a fly like this? It looks for all the world like it's wearing a knitted jumper. I found some pics on a bug site and it seems there is a bit of variation in their markings.
