Who actually uses these things? Seem more of a nuisance than anything.

When traveling, I usually leave the photo backpack at home and use a regular one. Camera with lens mounted in a lenscoat neoprene cover, and a spare lens in one of the canon pouches. They work very well for this purpose, and leave a lot of room for other travel necessities.

So yes, some people use them.

If I'm unsure whether I will use my 70-200 and only need one other lens, sometimes I'll pop it in the pouch to bring along with me. Otherwise everything I have goes in my bag and along with me.

They've never come out of the box.

Mine are all filled with gold coins. ;)

Actually, if I'm just going out with a small backpack, I'll use the pouches to keep everything from knocking around and getting damaged.

I have a couple that I use when I put my gear in my daypack. As the winter progresses, I'll also try them on a belt while skiing. We will see...

Several cameras and more glass than I will admit to.
