As long as the RAM will fit on the motherboard it should be fine. I got some cheaper OCZ memory last time I did a build, it worked fine. Kingston Value RAM works fine too.

That's what I want to get verified - if this will work on the motherboard. I had other RAM picked out but it sold out on me. Now I am trying to get a good replacement.

Thanks that is good to know. If I see any of those and they are the same price at Amazon I will go with Amazon.

The other nice thing about Newegg, is it keeps your order for a long long time. I just went and logged in and they have my orders going back to 2004. Not that it is a big deal, but it is funny to go back and see that I paid $45 for a sandisk 512mb CF card back in 2005.

Don't foget to go through MR Rebate, they have some cash back for Newegg purchases.

Also appears that they have free 3 day shipping for the holidays.

I have ordered my parts from them for two builds, however the last build I drove to the Microcenter for my stuff as I really wanted to build it that weekend.

Good luck.

I'm just saying that almost anything will work. Check the compatibility charts at kingston memory's website, or just buy something in a good brand with the same socket. Memory makes little difference unless you're overclocking AFAIK.

a 1G NVIDIA 430 is useless, if you can get a 512mb for cheaper do it, 430 cant power 1G of ram if it ever needed it.

Everything else looks great, as said for RAM, just get some Corsair or Kingston and your golden, as long as it is DDR3-1066 or 1333 and Dual channel (Intel i7-870 is not tri channel based) should work fine.

I have struggled the most with the video card - forgetting it all together to start, so any suggestions would be appreciated. Does the rest of the build look ok? Is there better RAM?

I have software that uses video ram, "fast picture viewer" uses it for displaying pictures quickly for culling. For that use a 1GB graphics card is better than a 512MB graphics card, given the same processor.

Just buy a mid range nVidia based card. They're easy to change later.

Does this RAM look better? CORSAIR XMS3 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 Desktop Memory Model CMX8GX3M2A1333C9. It's 32 dollars more, but I don't mind if it's a better product.

I do want a 1GB video card in case I need it for my photo work. I just need to keep looking maybe for a better one. Thanks for your help. I really want to get this ordered tonight, but I would rather make sure it's correct before ordering.

What is considered a "mid range nVidia based card"?

This RAM should be fine:

I personally don't see any need for anything over the card you have already chosen. I use an ATI 3450 with 256MB of RAM. Photo work doesn't need a big video card.

The link you provided is sold out. That is why I was changing RAM. Are you familiar with G Skill? It seems maybe lesser known but still good? Someone suggested the 1GB video card in case my software needed it. I am still figuring out software.

How does this card compare? It's $35 after rebates, but I see it has the lower GT number.

Sorry, newegg used to tell you that it was out of stock without having to click on the individual product page. :o

As for G Skill they are excellent! Lesser known you say? Not in the PC forums!

This Corsair kit should be fine too. A little slower, but I doubt you could tell the difference in speed.

EDIT: There is also this G Skill for $90!!!

I know GSkill isn't lesser known in the forums - that's why I felt ok choosing it. It just seems to be harder to find on some shopping sites. The Corsair you suggested is what I had chosen above (sorry I didn't link it). Between the Corsair and the G Skill http://www.newegg.com …aspx?Item=N82E16820231311 (external link) which would you recommend?

Let me echo a post already here: you don't need a good video card for photo editing. Do not spend money here. The only reason you need a video card other than motherboard video is if your motherboard video doesn't have the resolution you need.

Video cards today are sold for a fast frame rate - that's gaming. You're not gaming! Spend your money on more RAM or additional processors, not a fancy video card.

Thanks on the RAM. Now if I just get the video card I am set to buy (hoping nothing else is sold out in the mean time).

As for the video card should I stick with http://www.newegg.com …aspx?Item=N82E16814130579 (external link) or how does this one compair? http://www.newegg.com …Force%20GT%20220%201%20GB (external link)
