So I'm new to this flash world, I'm looking to get a flash setup for my camera but no clue where to start. Not looking to spend a lot, I guess you can say I'm looking for a flash that is kind of compared to the nifty fifty, its a good cheap affordable lens. Only thing I can compare it to.

What kind of work are you looking to do? Just improve indoor flash candids with the family/friends, or more studio style work?

a flash compared to the nifty fifty? i.e. simple but good value?

Is the Yongnuo reliable? I'm trying to get myself into car photography as a hobby, and I'm looking for a fill flash (also for a more efficient portrait flash), the Yongnuo seem too good to be true in a sense. The price is really low, and they compare real high to brand name.

It does seem too good to be true but it is true. I've been using Yongnuo flashes for over a year - reliable and cheap. You can start with the basic flash YN-465 - works with the camera menu. ETTL, full manual controls, $65 or go to an advanced flash with more features like the YN-468

Bottom line: knock-off "imitation" counterfeit flashes work but be aware: You are exporting American jobs to China and hurting the US economy.
wait a minute ... are there any flashes manufactured in the US? ... any cameras?

So, can someone sum up the difference between the third party options and the 430?
What will the 430 give me that the Yongnuo or the Nissin won't? Or vise versa?

I'm using a 5Dc, so just need something for occasional light. In the future, I might get more into lighting, but not until I get a taste for what a flash can do for me.

I just ordered the Yongnuo YN 465 to replace my 430 EX, which I'm giving to a family member. I don't shoot much flash at all, so it seemed worth whatever "risk" may be involved. From what I've researched however, there doesn't seem to be that much of a risk.

If you're getting into off camera flash, check out the RF-602 wireless trigger and receiver as well.

Weird. I can't find it at Amazon, B&H or Adorama. Can you post a link?

Came across this thread and checked out the link on ebay but didn't see of any for the 60D. Anyone know if they make one for it? Trying to find an affordable flash like that so I can also still get a battery grip.
