So I've been in the market for a compact flash card but there so much more money compared to an sd card, so I was wondering how well something like this would work out.

By the time you add in an extra $17 for the adapter, I am sure you could just have bought the equivalent CF card.

I've never used them, but it just sounds like one more fiddly thing to go wrong. CF cards aren't THAT much more expensive unless you are comparing to slower SD cards. Most of the cheap SD are Class 4. The slowest cheapo CF cards are as fast as Class 6 SD card.
