^ The last shot, I did, Ben... The previous two, the strobe/stripbox was mounted with Super-C Clamps on a backdrop support beam... I guess a visual illustration would probably work best, eh? Give me a moment... The studio is still setup from how I shot it... Be back soon...

:)

PS. Thanks for the comment...

I am a bit confused

http://www.alienbees.com/abr800.html (external link)

So is this regular WS like every one else or is this true WS Paul Buff? (not trying to start anything I am really looking at getting a ring light.)

The site says:
320 Wattseconds
320 True Wattseconds

It's 320 true Watt-seconds, just like the B800.

I'd like to know this as well. I have a B800 and ABR800 but no power pack yet so I haven't tested them out in the sun. I was looking into one B1600 but will hold off until someone can clarify for me if what I have is enough.

Midday 10am-3pm, no unless you're really close using only a bare reflector.
For midday, you'd ideally have around 1000WS in case you want to use any modifiers...

Depends on the modifiers, working distance, and just how much you want to overpower the sun. As mentioned above an AB800 bare and close will work, if were using the AB800 and ABR800 together you might get there.

My B800's generally struggle to really overpower. Generally, in midday sunlight, I can fill any shadows cast from the sun straight overhead with a modifier like an umbrella/softbox and, depending on the situation/light, I can usually darken up the sky/ambient by 1 to 1.5 stops if I'm in pretty close. Really though, if you want to use modifiers and not have the light in the face of your subject, it's worth it to go for a B1600/Einstein to be able to knock down the ambient by 2 stops or a little more...You'll still have a tough time blacking everything else out, even with 640 w/s... Never tried my ABR overpowering the sun, but I would guess it'd be the same as the B800 (same w/s)
