i'm just curious—

do you guys talk to the owners of the wheat fields for permission to take photos, or do you guys just trespass until someone kicks you out? lol.

Just shoot. Certain areas you actually have rights to be just by living in this country. You just need to know which areas those consist of.

But ya just hop out the car setup shoot leave. You do less damage to the product then a deer or any other animal would. Just respect the property you're shooting on/in.

The molly picture i posted was a wheat field behind my house. And about 30 minutes before that shot I was kicked out of an abandoned house out in the country. So this was our second location while coming back home. I saw it pulled off the road and told her lets get some here ;)

Sorry, but this is a load of crap. You don't have any rights to be on someone else's private property. I can't tell you how irritating this is to me, that people feel they can just walk around on and otherwise utilize property that is not their own. It doesn't matter one lick how much damage you THINK you're doing (or not doing); the point is, it's not your property.

I'm left to wonder if you'd feel it would be acceptable if I came over to your house, brought along a friend, and took some pictures of her in your flower garden and inside your garden shed. Mind you, I wouldn't actually steel anything, and I would do less physical damage than a stray dog - honest.

There's literally no difference between this ridiculous scenario and what you've done. Let me reiterate: you have NO RIGHT to be on private property that is not your own! Regardless of how you might try to justify it in your mind.

In the future, I hope you will be responsible enough to either stick to property that is TRULY public (state/national parks, public rights-of-way for roadways and waterways, etc.) or get permission from the owners to access property before your shoots. Otherwise, you're just going to be out there giving the rest of us a bad name.

i'm just curious—

At least around here close to where I live ( in the midwest of the US ) there are plenty of places that look just like what Ryan has in his shot, that are part of public property. Alongside walking trails, etc, in public parks and that sort of place. Shoot there all you want.

When it's private property....again...around here close to my home, you best have permission first, or you may find yourself looking down the wrong end of a shotgun.
I am going to photograph a barn here in the next month or so. This place is on private property that belongs to a man that we buy hay from. Simple process of asking him if I could come up and shoot photos....he was more than happy to say yes, and to be honest, I think he would have said yes even if we were not a "customer".
If he said no....well heck, there is another great old barn just a few miles away that is part of a state park....no problem shooting that one for sure.

Here's another example for you: I was in Vegas this past summer for a couple of shoots and had a few 'discussions' with security of the hotel as to what and why I was shooting. After a rather long conversation with a security guard one night at the Venetian, he called his boss, then gave me the name of a person in public relations. I called her the next morning, and she gave me permission to shoot on the property ( casino excluded of course ).
It just makes common sense to ask and get permission first.

Sorry, but this is a load of crap.

You right...Everything past what you wrote here is just that :-)

We own alot of land and if someone was using it to take a few pictures...Whats the harm? I would have no issue with it, and I don't think any person with their wits about them would either.

That's great for you - but it's NOT great for many, many other property owners. For anyone to make the assumption that a given property owner is of the same mind you are is completely out of bounds.

Nobody has the right to assume they can use someone else's property without asking. And to clarify, I make a serious distinction between taking a few shots in the edge of a field compared to entering someone's building.

If somebody came and asked to use your property, you'd clearly say yes, and no harm done. If somebody came and asked me, I'd most likely say yes as well, and no harm done. Why is it such a big deal to ask? The overwhelming sense of entitlement in this country is amazing to me...

But then I guess I don't have my wits about me, so what would I know, right?
