I get by with the AB800. However, I'm really just balancing my light with the sun. I'm about to pull the trigger on an Einstein. That extra stop would really be nice. Looks like you have the 6D as well. In full sun at sync speed your at 1/160 and f13. I can get f16 out of my AB800 with a BD if I have it about 5 feet away. So all I can really underexpose the background by is 2/3 of a stop. As far as your triggers go you might be surprised how well some of the cheaper triggers work. I've been using the cactus V5's and love them. They're simple and reliable. If all you need to do is tell a flash to fire the cheap triggers do a great job.

AB800 and AB1600 will not cut it if you have a larger group to shoot. Those only work with only one subject...plus your lights should have to be close too

Any recs on the ND filter? Really sorry didn't mean to thread Jack guys! I appreciate the help! I'd be looking for something reasonable that won't color cast or flare too bad. Thanks again guys!

if you are worried about color casting...don't use filters. Use a high watt strobe.

Any of the better quality ND filters wont cast at that density. B&W, Hoya Pro, Marumi, Haida all make decent filters. Casts are a much bigger issue as greater density.

True, but then you are stuck at F11 or so.

I do. It's used on the pic I posted above and if I remember correctly I dialed in about 4 stops of ND. I think it works like a charm.
