MichaelLynn Senior Member More info | Jun 02, 2015 05:48 | #5331 I'd like to learn more about shooting with strobes. can someone give the 1 paragraph crash course on why id consider using these over speed lights other than more power. I currently use 3 speed lights with triggers and a variety of modifiers. i do like the results i get but always looking to take things to another level.. Michael Lynn JR.

Larger modofiers give you softer light and the ability to mimic the best natural light on demand. A speedlite might fill a 40 inch umbrella or a 30 inch softbox. A bare bulb strobe can fill an 86inch plm or a 60 inch softbox, a dramatically larger softer light. You can also use strip lights for targeted lighting. Speedlights are fine for certain taskes, I keep a set for certain tasks, but strobes give you more options.
