HSS & ETTL equipped strobes and remotes are attractive, even though I don't really need them.

If you are interested in using TTL with your existing Alien Bees, PocketWizard FlexTT5 transceivers can connect to the remote control ports using an AC9 adapter. PocketWizard calls their TTL feature "power tracking" since it is not true TTL, but it works quite well in most circumstances. This setup would also allow you to use Hypersync with your existing units:

6 light set up. Two AB800s for rim with strip boxes behind left and right. AB400 on boom for highlight with 20 degree grid.
AB400 on BG for halo with 30 degree grid. AB800 camera left with socked PLM for fill. AB800 in large softball as main.
