thanksssssss

Just a quick question on lighting on that particular shot Ryan. Is it natural lighting over her right shoulder (Camera left) and then single strobe coming from the front (not sure which side)?

Also what light modifier did you use since I so can't tell by the catch lights in her eyes. Just curious as I look through these threads I try to guess on what was used and how. Figure it will help me out once I start shooting with strobes to have an understanding of how shots like yours come about.

Also love the the tiny bit of lens flare that you can see just barley in her hair camera left then stops right where the hair meets the face....amazing if you planned it that way!

AB1600 in 64" diffused PLM camera left (might of been the softlighter2, they are basically the same thing anyway). Placement right next to my lens/shoulder. I think I might of had a reflector camera right as well. I know I had it there and used it before this shot, but I can't remember if I had my assistant grab it for a some slight fill on under camera and to the right. Actually I think I did have it there...Everything was planned; hand placement, pose, sun, flare, lighting, etc. I knew the spot and knew the sun would be shooting through those trees. I wanted to backlight her with the sun with a little bit of flare coming through, but with a tight crop. It even looks really good in black and white. Almost uploaded it in black and white instead color.

Katlyn is a finalist for "America's Next Top Model" tv show.

Thanks for all the info Ryan and great to know how the shot was done. Pays to know an area well enough that you can position everything and get the sun just right like that. I like the focus point where it is as well so that her hair falling over her left eye and her eye are in focus and then it already starts to soften just a bit on her right eye and then fades out really well. Pays to use a 5D MKII and an 85 1.2 (which I assume you used for this particular shot).

You should totally upload a B&W version to either this thread or to your flicker page, would love to see what it looks like in B&W!

White vs silver beauty dish guys, which do you guys prefer. I ended up with a silver one, but ive been thinking about painting the inside white to soften the light a little more. Or should I just order a white one as well?

What I did was order the Silver 22" BD and when I need to soften then light I use the diffusion sock with it.

Sock it. I hate AB beauty dish, horrible. Your best bet is to just buy something else.

Mola is your high class BD - http://www.mola-light.com/ (external link)

Jerome also mentioned to me this one - http://www.kaceyenterprises.com/?page_id=461 (external link)
I don't know much about it, but he's excited about theirs and says it's good stuff. I don't know if it would fit or not. Probably something Jerome should talk about because he seems to know more about their BD then I do.

That Mola Setti and Euro are at the top of my list for modifiers in the next year. The AB hobd will do for now.
