I currently have the Cokin Z pro series holder and am disappointed with the amount of vignetting and actually seeing of the edges of the holder in my shots when using my 5d MK II with a 17-40. Can anyone tell me if the X pro series will eliminate both of those problems? I currently have the 4x6 LEE .9GND soft so to switch at this point wouldnt be a big deal. Thanks!

Did you remove any of the filter slots? I think it comes with 4 slots by default and you could remove a couple if you don't need them. Also, does Cokin have a wide-angle adapter?

If you remove a couple of slots and get the wide angle adapter, you should be able to use your 17-40 without vignetting I believe.

Cokin doesn't sell Wide angle adapters.
You need to mount the lens adapter in the first slot in the FRONT of the lens holder. This places the adapter threads into the "hole" of the adapter and moves the front of the lens very close to the second slot, where you put your GND. This is an arrangement very similar to the Wide Angle adapters sold by Lee. Then you can remove one slot and use shorter screws to further reduce the depth of the holder. this rebuild is detailed here with pics:

The only downside is if you have several size adapters and are constantly changing them, this arrangement won't work. I only have 1 adapter, 82mm, to fit my largest diameter lenses, then use step ups for my smaller diameter lenses to get to 82mm.
Perhaps you could edit your title to be Cokin Z not X? I believe the X are 150mm wide filter holders.

Thanks for the info. I put the adapter ring on the other side and did the modification on the site that was suggested. Everything seems to be ok so far. Thanks for saving me the cash for the bigger filters ;-)a
