I know you can get software to do it on Windows (extrawebcam.com), but can't find anything for Mac. Can someone help?

One question, why would you want to use your camera as a webcam?

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

You'd need to invest in an AC adapter as I don't think the battery will last long if the camera is in continuous live view mode.

So that I can use my wide-angle lens for a video chat.

An AC adapter runs about $55 so it might be cheaper to go with a regular webcam. I'm sure this time of year there are some good deals.

Doesn't your Mac come with a built in camera?

Also, from your gear list, the 18-55 isn't that wide on a 40D.

Yes, it does have the iSight, but the 18-55 is still wider and higher quality.

On my 500D, the sensor gets hot during live view. After about 20-30 minutes it shuts down due to high temperature. Probably does not do the sensor much good.

You could use a wide-angle adapter with a web cam.
