Might not be new news to anyone else, but CLP has G11s for $259.99+tax+a defunct Canon camera. Free 2-day shipping. Seems to be a pretty good price?

That is a refurb., isn't it? If it comes with a standard 1 year warranty, that would be better than buying used and quite a good deal if it lasted over the long-term.

FWIW, I just called Canon and they told me the cameras come with a 90 day warranty.

Oh, well. I bit. I had an old Elph 370Z. I'm going to hope the 90 day warranty isn't necessary.

I think the odds are with you on this that it will do fine. There is a good chance you are going to get what was a return versus something that actually had a problem.

The unit I received fromt this program was indistinguishable from NEW. I ran a computer check of the shutter count and it was 1. I don't think you have any thing to worry about. Just get it and shoot with it, enjoy.

There are a couple of threads in the EOS section on the loyalty program, all positive. I recently got a 50D very reasonably in exchange for my fried 30D.

Odds are very good that you won't regret it.

check out my sig for the link for the FAQ.

I bought a 5D II for $1600. of course they discontinued selling the 5DIIs a few weeks after they introduced it. demand was pretty high I think.

they are good about it if you get a defective unit. they will ship you out a replacement once your unit comes back to them. they have 2 day free fed ex shipping.

get on eBay, buy a broken P&S Canon camera and get your refurb. if the 90 day warranty scares you, check out SquareTrade.com. they offer warranties on refurb items.

how bad condition can the trade in be? i have a g9 that had the lens retraction problem and in trying to fix it the lens mechanism broke...badly. does canon care? also, the price of mint used g11's is approaching $300 so $260 plus tax and shipping isn't all that fantastic.

Based on my conversation with the Canon Loyalty Program representative and the info in other threads on POTN and elsewhere about this program, the condition of your trade-in camera does not matter. The rep said "it has to be broken" but he was clearly reading from a printed set of "rules." Others' experience suggests that the trade-ins go to a central depot that simply verifies that you shipped them back an actual Canon digital camera - the condition isn't even verified by anyone. I confirmed by phone that an old S400 would qualify as a trade-in for a 7D body currently priced at $1087, and placed my order yesterday. Shipping confirmation came today.

Also, 2-day FedEx shipping is included free.
