So a bit of background. I've been made redundant and have been looking for a new job, I'm basically a jack of all trades in the media areas, but have been doing merchandising and product photography.

I got head hunted today by a new online fashion retailer and the conversation went like this, I'll skip the general questions.

Them: So have you done any product 360's before?

Me: Yes, I have lot of experience doing product 360's?

Them: How many do you usually get done between 9-5?

Me: Well depending on the product, and including editing them, usually around 25 if the product doesn't need staging.

Them: That seems a little low, we would expect a higher standard and would want at least 150 a day, since we will be having thousands of products.

Me: Correct me if I'm wrong but that would be one every 3-4 minutes.

Them: Yes, I'm sure we can figure out some way to speed up the process.

At this point I'm thinking they're just naive because its a new company

Me: So, out of interest what equipment do you have at the moment.

Them: Well none at the moment, we would need you to source some. You'd have a budget of about £1000 for the equipment and any expendables. We already have a camera, so it's just the rest. Have you used Nikon before.

Me: Yes I have used Nikon before, although my own personal equipment is Canon.

Phone hangs up..... Was about to add, that budget seems low, considering the lighting and turntables are quite costly

So I call them back thinking that the line just cut out and this is the comment I get....

Them: Sorry but we have no interest in someone who uses Canon. Professional photographers know that Canon is not only low grade but produces extremely bad results.

Me: I believe your misinformed, thanks for the opportunity, goodbye.

---------------

Just thought some might get a chuckle or two out of this one. I love the Canon vs Nikon comments, especially from people who obviously have absolutely no clue.

I called my agency after this one, told them what happened, the guy couldn't stop laughing. Apparently they're trying to hire quite a few people and making lots of stupid comments. Also the woman who called me sounded quite young.

Once perfection is reached it is no longer perfect, since a new standard is created based on an "improved vision" of the original perfection. This creates a infinite cycle which inevitably leaves to disappointment.

Sounds like they'd be wonderful to work for. Good thing their stupidity was obvious from the beginning :p

Wow, that's crazy -- maybe a bunch of POTN folks could get in touch with them looking for a job and then when they ask about Nikon say "No, sorry, I shoot Canon" and quickly hang up:).

Sad (but kinda reassuring) that Dilbert is alive in the UK too... :-|

That is funny though - good luck!

As the saying goes - there is one born every minute.

It is better to keep your mouth shut and let people think your an idiot that to open your mouth and eliminate all doubt like the online fashion retailer did.

Just spoken to my agents, who apologised for not doing the company research. Turns out that they had said and I quote "xxxxx are at the forefront of fashion retail and are one of the biggest companies in the industry". Which is funny for a company that doesn't even have a website yet.

The whole thing screems setup. Or as I think of it, pay people to setup the website, dump them after 2 months when the work is done and see how it goes.

Got to agree with you on this one.

Also in my experience its better to say I don't know rather than wing and answer which could be wrong.
