It's an evocative image. I think you could crop a bit on the right. There's a lot of black there that serves no purpose other than to push the subject too far to the left. It would be better to have more room on the left so that he's not looking out the edge of the image.

Your subject matter is a bit odd looking (joke) Not bad for your first attempt but it also depends on the look you were going for; High fashion? editorial? flashlight around a campfire? just watch out for too many shadows on the face. If you only have 1 flash a reflector could help you fill it in a bit more so you don't have that big black negative space beside your nose. Keep reading, learning and playing around with it.

I agree with Joe on the space to the right (it wouldn't be difficult to switch it). Other than that it's a great image IMO. The light is really very nicely done, the image is crisp and clear, the expression good, the conversion good.

The style probably has a limited use but I like it here.
