Yes, this is in the wrong section but it gives me a chance to comment. :p

You did the 350D justice. Technically it looks fine to me, although if I were to nitpick it would be the light on the outside of the right leg and the light cast on the inside of the left leg above the knee.

The model also looks doubtful to me somehow, and I'm not feelin' her expression.

Thanks for the comments IrishK :-)

It was my 1st attempt at a proper shoot and I was stuck for space hence the light spillover. I was trying to blow the background out using a bare 580EX II.

The model is my son's girlfriend and the others shots are smiling expressions but it looks like I won't be able to post them if they are G/N :-(

She did a great job and once the nerves had gone from both of us we had fun and she was a natural.

More comments anyone?

Yes that is where they choose for the Ali G character to be based.

In fact the football team jumped on that bandwagon at the time so much so that the website is www.stainesmassive.co.uk (external link) and the fans are know as "the Massive" and the match day programme is called "It's Massive" (It's A4 size!

:-)

You need another light for the background and the model should be further away from the background to prevent spill.

Good effort.

Not a glamour shot though...

The background is lit unevenly, which normally if it looks like it was done deliberately, wouldn't be a problem, but here it looks like an oversight. I would have preferred if it wasn't lit at all actually as the bright spot is drawing my eye. It is also hot on her leg as that is blown out.

Squint your eyes and look at it and tell me the first thing you see. Is it the football shirt? If not, then the shot doesn't work as intended right?

If you were trying to blow it out using a single 580EXII, try moving the flash further from the background, widening the zoom on the flash, and pointing it over to camera right more than left. It won't be perfect though, as you said your space was cramped, so I would rather not light it at all and save the flash for a rimlight instead.

The lighting is a bit flat on top, or rather it looks uninteresting. Look at the part in her hair. You have the light slightly to your right, but it should really be to the left to avoid the hair shadow cast on her face.

The pose is good but her expression is not working for me, more specifically, her mouth.

Sorry if this sounds a bit harsh, but the shot has a lot of potential and the girl is beautiful. I think you did quite well overall even if my critique doesn't make it sound so.

Also, just curious, but why is this considered glamour? You guys need to lighten up. Society is turning everyone into prudes.

Post the others :)

Thanks all,

Great points from TB I must admit it was all learning/remembering whilst I was doing it as it was my 1st real time doing this and it was quite rushed. All good experience though.

I will post some more tonight including an unedited one to show how close she is to the end of the paper. These were taken in my conservatory and my sons train set was preventing us opening the background any more.

I definitely need to make some more space to work in! I took my son to Beavers last night and I was wondering if I should ask them if I could rent the Scout hut sometimes when it's not in use :-)

3 more, one of them unedited to show how near the end of the background was and also without the flash backlight although I did not adjust the main lights to compensate.

Sorry about the silly watermark thing I had them posted elsewhere and did not want them used before I had published them for the club.

I prefer the second image the most and I think a simple crop could improve it a lot. Since you have image editing ok, I took a second to recrop it for you and let you judge if you like it. I also did a small curves adjustment, but I think I increased the reds too much. I am working on a PC in work so I cannot tell if the colours are correct.

Overall ok. Background needs a bit of a clean up but skin tones look good to me.
Didn't you notice the "staines" on the shirt?
