Few shots from the DBG.

Beautiful series.. I love how that 180 lens just mushes up the backgrounds all nice and soft... :)

Thank you. It can be a PITA to shoot but I do love the lens.

Great shots Frank and this conversation has really put me more in the "Ya know, I don't think I want to really pursue the get paid to shoot" mood... I want to enjoy shooting, not have to "work" at it.
This is coming from someone who hears "You should sell your shots..." but I don't really think it's for me (at least right now), and really hadn't thought about how many "Pro" proof-shots are totally stolen via FB.

Many thanks!

Don't let the conversation scare you off from doing anything. You never know what will happen until you try.

I saw 70-100 Momerazzi's yesterday at the Botanical gardens... all shooting their kids and the butterflies. I didn't feel threatened or discouraged they would capture anything I was shooting. ( I didn't shoot the kids... would be a little creepy ROFL)

Call it ignorance.. call it being naive... I still believe people will pay to have their photos taken if they enjoy your style of work.

So... if there is an interest in your work... pursue it and see where it takes you.

Just my $.02

Yeah.. I was looking at the Sigma 150 like you recommended, but I'm pretty sure to hand hold at that lenghth, my shutter would have to be pretty high, unless I got IS.. but the IS is more than I can spend on a lens..

Still thinking about the Canon 100.... I guess something would be better than nothing.. Or maybe just get the extension tubes like you guys said. lol...

Everytime the flowers bloom I get all itchy for a macro lens.

OK, I thought the Sigma 150 was the macro to get?

Now it's the Canon 180?

What is the PITA part of shooting with it? Just that lens or all macro's?

OK, so why wouldn't you want to get paid for your photography?

If YOU don't believe there is any value in your images how can you expect your VIEWERS or customer's to see value in your images?

You have to know "this image has value, and is worth paying for" when you evaluate your own work, right? (that is a question in the form of a statement, but meant as a question)

The 100mm macro would be a good lens for you. I try to use the monopod with the 180mm as much as I can... I was shooting up to ISO 2000 yesterday at some point and the shutter speeds were still a little slow for what I wanted. The lens is a challenge but I do love it. The Sigma 150mm is a little lighter and wouldn't be a bad choice.. I would still use a monopod with it. Not so much with the Canon 100mm.

Doug... the Sigma 180mm macro lens is great! The PITA part is it shows camera shake being a longer lens. I have to keep the shutter speeds up higher than I would the Canon 100mm since I can hand hold the 100mm much easier. I do hand hold the Sig 180 but I prefer to use the monopod when I can.

The Sig 150mm is a fantastic lens from what a few of my buddies have told me.. and from the work I have seen them produce.

Good stuff guys. I think I'm gonna spring for a canon 100 macro whenever I can find a good deal.

Are you thinking about the "L" or the original? I had the original for about 4 years... great lens... very pleased with the performance. I haven't shot with the "L". Steve C. has one... and love it from what I understand.

Definitely the original. From what I an find online, both are super sharp and handle well. I'm not gonna need the weather sealing, not can I afford the price tag of the red ring. :D
