How many speed lights do you have...

just wondering what's the average number of speed light potn ppl have...I currently only have three do you guys think this is good enuf for strobing.???
I probably need more...

It all depends on what you want to use the flashes for. For some applications, one is more than enough. But for others, even 10 may not be enough (I seem to recall someone using 12 or more hotshoe flashes out in the middle of the desert)!!!

Hotshoe flashes? None right now (though a 580 is the next thing on my "buy" list"). I can't see needing more than 2 or 3. If I'm doing serious enough strobing that I need more than three flashes for, I'm going to buy studio strobes. For the price of a 580 you could almost get a genesis 200 and vagabond II. or for a little bit more, a d-lite and a vagabond.

I have four. 580EXII, 430EXII, and 2 vivitar 285HV.

Spent all my recent capital but getting some vivitar 285s as soon as the YN's start dying (more than they have)

3x Canon speedlights and 3 Nikon.

Run and gunning I'll use ETTL and when I'm shooting manual I'll just abuse my nikon's.

Four. A 540EZ, a 430EX, and two 285HV's. Sometimes I find myself wanting one or two more, but four seems to be a pretty good number for me right now.

As interesting as that video was, I had to laugh at the Christmas tree of Nikon Speedlight's Joe McNally used to shoot in the desert. I believe he has 15 SB-800's.

I would like to see said video.

The guess the general answer is the more the better of cause up to a point....I'll probably put it at say 8-12 speedlight...over 12 is probably overkill...

for hss and high fire rate since each speed lights can be set at a lower power to archive the same output as 1 speedlight...This setup is about as complex as you can possibly get (and expensive) full ttl control using radiop popper

But for the most part using more than 3 or 4 speedlites is either a novelty or an exercise in excess. Perhaps there are a few shots that couldnt be taken another way, but for people who actually pay for their gear that many speedlites is not really an option.

nikon sb-600, sb 700 and a achiever 115A, just waiting for a trigger for the achiever to arrive so i can use it. looking at adding another sb-600 maybe 2 for stobist work. after that. i'll buy some alien bees and vagabonds if i need anymore lighting
