Phase One has announced C1 version 6 in both express and pro versions. You can see and read about it --here-- (external link). I am just downloading but the items they say they have added will make the product even better than it already is.

My apologies if this was posted elsewhere, couldn't find it.

I've read it's a bit buggy, but has things like local adjustments which should be nice for C1 users.

Hot damn - C1v6 is a monster. Unless you need to do some really detailed image manipulation, Photoshop is all but unnecessary.

Very interested to see how the local correction tool works compared to LR.
I went over to LR when the added the LC tool but would like to go back to C1 one day.

Happy to see the geometric/pincushion feature added. The RAW conversion is my preference. I am very much "in like" with C1 Pro.

I'm so glad that Phase One now listen to their customers. I got all but one of my requests. Though a free cake with every upgrade was a bit much to ask I suppose.

I downloaded and installed and it is looking very good. I opened a folder with 6127 CR2 files from a 1DsMKIII and I cannot believe how fast it renders and the images are available for working on them. In version 5 it took a bit of time. I cleared my bridge cache and opened the same folder in Bridge and it took substantially longer, many minutes but I didn't time it exactly. This has always been an issue with me for C1 but they have addressed it.

Is this going to be a buggy release as some have hinted at. Certainly there will be some things that pop up but as far as being buggy to the point it won't function, I don't see that in what I have done so far. I don't know a release of any software by any company that don't do maintenance releases a short time after it is released, even Adobe.

It's been out less than 24 hours so I will reserve my final judgment until I have worked a full assignment with it. So far I'm really liking what I am seeing.

I'm really liking the ability to fix shots to approximate T&S - mind you, not replace but approximate the alignment of a T&S - in this new version. Very handy for architectural uses.

No crashes or bugs for me, but I need load it up this weekend and try a large batch job.

Overall, very pleased the way this is evolving, plus now it supports my S95 RAW. Sweet.

I dont think it fully supports the S95, even though the S95 is listed.
A few wide angle shots seem to have a lot more curvature in them compared to LR and DPP and i cant seem to fix it without using the Keystone correction.

Its a shame you cant slide the distortion slider to the left as it seems to only go to the right and accentuate the curve.
I must admit ive not used C1 since V4 so maybe im missing something.

I don't associate supporting RAW files with correcting geometry with the exception of known issues with the lens, etc. How can the software know what to adjust in an image? If you can open the RAW files AND adjust the image to your liking, then I think it can be said to support the camera. Or, I misunderstand what you are saying - which is likely :-)

I'm sure others can answer that - I don't use LR.

But from observing the use of LR, I think it safe to say it has a wider range of features associated with creating a database-like assembly of images. And it is designed for a vastly wider range of lenses and bodies. C1 is primarily designed for their digital backs and they support DSLRs up to a point. LR really tries to be everything for everyone, and obviously have a huge following of highly skilled people.

You need to know what you are seeking? I seek the best possible RAW conversion as a primary goal, followed by "getting the color right" and that is subjective for me, then work flow, then features which matter - like, as I previously said, the ability to replicate tilt and shift lenses, to a high degree, with geometric shifts. I also find C1 is exceptional with my Zeiss primes in terms of pulling out all of the sharpness. I was underwhelmed when I tested a friend's LR2, though it was perfect for his uses.

Good luck!
