Weather changed for the worse and winter has arrived. Figured if I had to shoot birds through the deck doors, they might as well be CLOSE!!! Put a cup of feed on small deck table, had a seat and waited for about 30 seconds. Here's who showed up ...

1. Must have been hungry, not a usual feeder

2. Female cardinal

3. Black-capped chickadee

Keep feeding that female cardinal, she needs some meat on her bones. Boy, she's curious about you, isn't she? Looks like a good setup!

You just got me thinking, dave. I already have a nice setup i'm happy with, but what if i put seeds in a lawn chair? or the picnic table? i wonder if those would be a little funny. who wouldnt like a tiny bird in a big chair?

nice blue jay shot, too. i am still trying to capture mine. i have about 4-8 over here on any given day, but they dont come to my feeder. and, i've never seen them so skittish the infrequent times they do. i put up some suet and hope that will bring them in a little. if not, i will be forced to use peanuts......my secret weapon...lol.

Straightening...lol. Every time I straighten the horizon, I hang the picture crooked.

I noticed that too! She's very colorful but could use some 'feed.' Each winter, there are several pairs that come around. By late winter, the resident mating pair will be the only two left.

Thanks! I was surprised the Blue Jay showed up so soon. They used to be the resident bullies, but same here--they're really skittish about coming by and staying for more than a few seconds anymore. Guess the snow and big cold snap made him hungry.

And sure, put seed anywhere and they'll find it! We should start a post with birds feeding in the most ridiculous places we can put seeds!

Thanks. And yeah, one the few where focus was completely nailed. I was so close that even shooting at f/7.1, they still had some DOF.

thanks. dismal weather, shooting through double paned, beveled deck doors, at high ISO ... getting the birds within 5' of the lens was my only hope yesterday!

Nice Dave Good fun on N Ohio's first snow hit today. We did the same in North Olmsted. The cats and I watching the feed party of about the same birds picking off the back driveway.
cheers,
Sam
