I have read up on quibids a bit and the problem is that you have to prebuy a package of bids. Each bid costs $0.60 and the lowest bid package is I believe $25,(but that might not be 100% accurate I don't recall). The problem is so many people bid that the chances of you winning the bid are very low. In which case you just spent all your bid money on nothing. You do have a chance to buy that item for retail value, which is of course higher than most other vendors retail value. Hopefully I will be proven wrong and other people chime in with more positive experiences.

the retail value is roughly the same, it's obviously a bad deal if you are not determined to buy that item.

I did some reading up on it after seeing that ad and it clearly looks like a racket to me. Rope you in thinking you can get a 7D for under $100 and then let you buy one at $1999. ;)

My friend from home got a Macbook using reverse bids. He said he spent like $50 worth of bids and it paid off, it really is a crap shoot and your lucky to win. I'd rather Play $50 on a roulette wheel and try to double it 4 times to $800, better odds.

i've seen similar ads for bigdeal.com...same concept. i believe it cost $0.75/bid with the minimum purchase of 30 bids. it's a good deal for the winner of the bid but not so much for the other bidders that lose because the losers end up spending money on bidding without getting anything in return. i've watched a bid for a macbook pro and the winning bidder placed over 500 bids...CRAZY!

What's crazy is that it costs $0.60 to bid but the bid increments are only $0.05 or $0.10 a lot of times. Which means that the owners are making a huge ROI on each item. I mean you figure there are items that get several thousand bids... I'm with Drakes on this one and think even casinos don't rip you off as bad.

I've read up on these. Even when you think you're going to win, you get miraculously outbid by someone--likely someone at quibids whose job it is to make sure they don't sell something for too little.

A lot of these types of auctions are scams. The problem is many of these sites counter-bid, themselves, as to bid up the price. They make their money from you buying more and more bid packages. Your chances of winning at a low price bid is far and few between.

I don't understand how this isn't gambling.

Almost like online dating services that send people who have a "free trial" constant messages that this or that person wants to meet you but you have to pay for a one year membership to be able to communicate with them only to find out the supposed potential dates all deleted their profiles the minute you signed up. Just another online racket.

It's essentially gambling, and the odds are that you will waste your money. Some math professors got together and studied these once--they determined that there isn't any strategy you can employ that will increase your odds of winning other than bidding more and more.
