Hi All,

After years shooting with JPEG only, I finally give RAW file a go today: just can't believe the colour richness in the RAW file, and easiness of expose correction even with Canon's DPP program! Some of well over expose photos, which can not be savaged in JPEG; but turn out as great photos after RAW file correction!! I resize a photo into 1920x1080 for upload, it just looks 'pale' compare to the original file.

Thanks for fellow POTN members, I learn MORE since I join your guy few months' ago than past few years :-)

Many time I saw 'never mind the web / forum uploaded photos'; now I understand what is the meaning ;)

Your image looks underexposed and over saturated on my calibrated monitor. Is your monitor calibrated?

2nd Try: adjust white balance and expose.

Shooting Raw definitely has benefits, and the Raw processors of today pack a lot of power!

And, have you visited our Raw Conversion Thread? Drop in, read the "directions", and post some of your work!

How ever-exposed were the RAW files that you recovered that were unsalvageable in JPEG? Did you take JPEGs and RAWs at the same time?

Yes, I did RAW + JPEG 'just in case' 1st. After get few well over exposed photos, which usual would be useless in JPEG; but turn out as great photos in RAW! I feel sorry to wast so many 'incorrect exposed' photos over the years.

How over-exposed are you talking about? 1 stop? 2?

for the usual family and friends photo taking, i often snap quite a number and i simply dun not have the time to pp them anyway, so i shoot jpg and with a little more discipline make sure the exposure and wb turn out nice for facebook uploading :lol: I dun even crop them heck.

only for my travels and other shots where i have the liberty of time to sit down to work on them do i shoot raw. even then, the ones that do well in jpg i will use them since it definitely cuts down on workflow.

over saturated, did you use a filter or set to red filter in-camera or PSed the shot?

Non, just UV filter. I think that was due to White Balance problem; 3rd attempt :-)

Once I started shooting RAW exclusively, I wanted to hit myself on the head for not doing it sooner.

A tip for you...if you had taken a photo of a neutral gray card in the same light as your actual shot, you could use the eyedropper White Balance too to adjust the color temp in post processing, preventing the need for three tries.

I find this to be a bit more pleasing, even compared to your 3rd attempt...the lady on the right seems to have too cyan skin tone on the 3rd attempt, I like your 2nd attempt better for that reason but it was still too warm
