Snow Leopard Cub

I drove into Boston this mornings and passed the sign for the little local zoo, and the sign had an addition - "Snow Leopard Cubs!" Well I had to stop for that... (I also caught the last day show of their bird show, "Lord Of The Wing" but more on that later or tomorrow...)

Anyone, this is one of the two male cubs born May 24. Ya know, you'd have thought that they would have told people sooner. I am a member and all. But still, 4-1/2 month-old cubs are still cute.

Those paws are huge!

The L.A. Zoo sends a newsletter to its members every month. The top left corner of page two is always a panel that lists all birth, arrivals and departures that have taken place during the past month. They keep us pretty well informed.

As for the information, I am lucky that my local zoo which I have season card to have an internet site where they maintain a list of new borns in the zoo. Though it sometimes takes a while to be updated but its there and I check it regularly.

Well after much searching I found a way to submit my email address for events, news, birth announcements, etc. I'll probably get spammed a lot but it will be worth it. Considering that this zoo is 30 minutes from the house I should be there more often.

Is that the Stone Zoo? I've been meaning to take a trip down there. I have not been to it in years.

Yep, that's the place. Not a bad little place but limited for good shots. Too much fencing and the sun is all wrong almost all day. Another 30 minutes will get you to the Franklin Park Zoo which is much more worthwhile. But that's really a full day, whereas the Stone Zoo can be done in a few hours.

Actually my wife and I once got to play with a pack of 4-month-old jaguars. The animal trainer "threw" us in the cage with them. (Try to hold me back...) They weren't as big as this guy, but their paws were still bigger than the palm of my hand. They were basically 30-pound kittens.
