The closest I've ever gotten to one of these guys. We have a lot of cats and I just happened to be out in the trees while all the cats where inside. I had to take a long break from birding after four surgeries this summer. I'm happy to be able to get out and about again.

Thanks for all the nice comments. It's great to be able to walk around outside with a camera again.

The Downies are fun to watch. I know they're pretty common but usually I spook them before I can get that close. I hope this little guy has moved in, he appears to be much tamer than most and it would be great to get some more close shots of him without cloud cover as these were taken under.

Thanks Bill. Even the 70-200 f/4 IS can produce some nice bokeh in the right situations. I've been really pleased with mine.

It was rough and kept me holed in the house most of the summer and early fall so I missed a lot of shooting opportunities. Getting better though and I'm thankful for that. Thanks for the well wishes!

Thanks. It is nice to get out and about and shoot something other than the cats in the house. I'm not quite up to putting the 35-350, 100-400, or 400/5.6 on the 1D4 yet but I'll get there and for now I'm just happy to be able to get around with the 70-200 f/4 IS. :)

Some nice shot you have here, Just one question, I could see the exif and some of the shots are a bit oof, what shutter speeds did you shoot these at? That's pretty close at 70mm, must of been exiting to be upclose to these guys.

F/4 and 1/60 to 1/100 which is slower than I like to shoot with that lens even with IS. It was dark and overcast, hopefully I catch him again in sunshine.
