Looks good, you'll need to be the first to get it.

I think the 4 section PT-124 is better specified, with the weight supported higher and built in foot spikes.

Looks like another Chinese Gitzo ripoff! Nothing wrong with that some of them are great! This one looks as though it might have been made by Triopo, though it has some more up market features than the Triopo I have. It looks to be a nice tripod but it's quite a lot of money, I picked up a new Gitzo 2541 for not a great deal more in RIPOFF Britain!
I'd suggest you have a look at the Triopo range (sold as Benro in US), they don't look quite as nicely made but are much cheaper when bought as the the original Triopo brand rather than Benro. Or you could give up eating for a few months and get a Gitzo! They are worth the extra (never thought I would say that!).

I tried Gitzo 1541T but it's really too short. I am 6"4.

OOPS! Got it wrong! The 2541 is my monopod, the tripod I meant is my GT2531 mountaineer - this goes to a max height of about 160cm with the centre column extended. The ultimate solution is the 4 section 5 series systematic, a 6'7'' friend uses one. However it's BIG! It has a large footprint and legs like tree trunks, VERY stable but lots of pennies! Oh yes and it will support almost anything, I have read of the 2531 (rated at 12 kilo) supporting 77 kilo (the photographer) so goodness only knows what a 5 series will do!

I was reading a review of the 2531 which seemed to be written by someone who knows what he is talking about and he reckoned that it supported him! I have the very short Gt3320BS which will support my 105 Kilo. I know Gitzo test to ridiculous weights (see their catalogue) but that is not too relavent for our uses, we need to know the sensible weight limit and what sort of lens it's designed for. I have 3 Gitzos, the 2 above and a GT3530LS, all of which appear to exceed their specifications - still at the price they should!

it claims to be made of "buck pipe" anyone with better technical knowledge understand that?

i am 93kg (5x the claimed max supported weight) and hung off the 3530. rock solid.

Triopo and Benro are different companies. Benro also sell under the Induro name with very minor cosmetic differences. Though I agree they all look very similar!

PhotoClam make good kit. They are Korean and, circumstantially, I'm not the only one to think that they are pretty much twinned with Markins. That's no bad thing, but they're not as cheap as the Chinese jobbies.

WOW! good for Gitzo. I never tested anything that beyond Gitzo's recommendations. I may not need upgrade my Gitzo 2542L to 3541L to support my coming 400mm f/2.8 then.

My GT2531 Mountaineer will EASILY support my 600 or my (now sold) original 400 f2.8 at 6.1 Kilo! I have never tried the 2542 but I am sure it's good. However thats not the problem, I have a Triopo GT128 that will hold the 600 and it weighs less than a Kilo! The problem is not supporting the weight its how rigid it is and how well it damps down vibration. When you get your lovely new lens (congratulations by the way) try your tripod against a higher spec one and see if the differece is worth it to you. One suggestion if you like the 3541 (I think you will!) try the 3530 (3 leg sections) cheaper and more rigid. The 3541 has leg sections of 3 series then 2 then 1 then 0 series, the 3530 has leg sections of 3 series then 2 then 1 + 3 less leg locks all better for rigidity but it's a bit longer for stowage - all compromises!

I have a Photoclam 40-NS ballhead. Very nice ballhead. I am not familiar with their tripods. I actually found out about Photoclam on the Reallybigcameras website while buying my Feisol tripod. I got the Photoclam to go with it after being impressed by what I saw and read here from others. Hopefully the tripods are of equal quality.
