Hi All

I have searched but may have used the wrong keywords - If have links to threads are just as good as replies.

I want to achieve 3 things with a high level of automation and need some help doing so.

1. For photos that I consider 'good' (i.e. 3 stars) but not 'wall hangers' (4 and 5 stars) I would like to
export as jpeg
re-import jpeg to lightroom
delete RAW.

2. Photos with 4 and 5 stars I want to back up the raw file to an external drive.

3. I would like to back up the LR catalogue file to 2 places at once when it asks to back up. I would also only like to keep the most recent back up. Currently LR keeps all the backups.

Fair bit to ask I know - I can do all these things manually but It's taking me a lot more time

Cheers

Nathan

1. Personally speaking, I wouldn't do this because I think that if they're good enough to save at all, they're good enough to save as RAWs. But if this is what you want to do, select all the 3 stars > export, checking "Add to this catalog" > delete the selected files.
2. I do this from outside LR. The backups are insurance; if nothing happens to the originals, LR doesn't need to know about them. Just a simple drag-and-drop in Explorer, done twice because I keep two backups.
3. I'd like to do this also but AFAIK it can't be done. No big deal; periodically I go to the J external, delete all but the last three backups and copy them over to the K external.
Automation is nice, but a minute's time and a half-dozen keystrokes doesn't seem too taxing.

Nice GSHP. I used to breed them.

Thanks Mate!, There a lot of tick boxes around that I find once in awhile - you've just got me on another one.

1 & 3 are solved

With 2, I think every now and again I'll sort by atribute (> 4 stars) and export as 'original' via LR.

Does anyone know how to keep the LR processing data with each raw file for these back ups.

However, I suppose if I keep the catalogue files safe there is no need

Yes, keeping a catalog-file with an "intact relationship" keeps the processing together with all collections and ratings. Bt if you want a "permanent record" of processing that would follow a file even if, say, you deleted the catalog that contained that file the only thing to do that would be to use the Save Metadata to File approach. It creates a "sidecar" xmp file alongside the Raw file that contains processing data, keywords, and some other things that certain apps can read, but not some catalog-specific things like, for example, collections and flags. This approach can be good not just for Lightroom use but also for, example, using Bridge/Photoshop alongside of Lightroom for some things.
