?
I know several years ago these replaced Ni-Cad batteries in cordless tools but now Li-Ion are replacing NiMh. Wondering how they would do for flash use.....

The regular Powerex are 2700 mAh and the new Imedion (ultra low discharge, same as the Eneloop) are 2400 mAh. You know, of course, that there's no free lunch, so most rechargeable AAs never produce 1.5 volts, they produce 1.25. For some devices, that means the device never thinks the battery is at capacity. While i understand the economics of rechargeables, I had to carry many more sets than disposable ones to keep going through a 1,200 photo event (like a wedding). I put them in my 430 EX II and I've got to be at almost 1,000 flashes and no noticeable degradation in recycle time. Unreal - they're pretty amazing if you ask me. Wilt Reader's Digest Condensed version of War and Peace [POTN Vol 1] More info | Dec 04, 2010 13:20 | #14 Lithium ion are not replacing NiMH...they have the wrong voltage output to be put into the AA form factor and will not produce about 1.5v in that form. 'Lithium' non-rechargeable cell is not the same as 'lithium ion' (rechargeable). Lithium cell has a very long shelf life (10 years) making them well suited as emergency beacon batteries for airplanes and boats, and emergency flashlights for homes; lithium ion self discharge and work fine with GPS or laptops where periodic recharge is likely.
