Got to love customers!

I did my fall sports shots again and we wrapped up in mid October. On December 15th I get an email, forwarded from the league director, from a customer saying that they never received their two kids' pictures. I looked up their teams and noticed I had no order form or any indication of payment so I let her know that and told her to get copies of cancelled checks from the bank and send them to me.

Fast forward to JANUARY 3rd (it is the offseason for me so I don't check this particular email that much) and she says she has the checks how do I want them sent to me. Jan 7th she asks why I haven't responded. Jan 10th she emails the league director again saying how upset she is that she doesn't have pictures and now I am not responding. She hopes I am just out of town for the holidays. League director forwards it to me.

I respond same day saying I'm sorry I don't check email much in my offseason, please scan and email. Next day she says she will do it that night.

Fast forward to today and I've heard nothing from her. I email and ask if she has sent them since I had not seen anything from her. This afternoon I get 2 emails with scan of the checks. I open them to reveal precisely what I had figured. The checks were not written to me! They were written to a different company and for amounts that differed from my packages. I politely told her thank you for sending me the checks, but that they were not to me, perhaps her kids also play in another league? I also copied all of my emails to the league director.

No response yet.

Priceless!!! People do that at my job constantly. Much quicker to send an email than to check if their issue is valid

Just got her reply:

Do your records show that you took a photo of Joe and Jacob Agnetti on October 6, 2010? I remember very clearly writing these checks out for my kids to have pictures taken. How is it the Metro Portraits cashed the check but you took the picture. Metro Portraits either owes me my money back or my pictures.

I am completely confused at this point.

And my response:

Based on my schedule from fall pictures I would have taken the Falcons' pictures on September 25 and the Saints' pictures on October 2. There is absolutely no way that I took pictures of your children on October 6th as this was a Wednesday and all team pictures were taken on Saturday's around game times. Perhaps these were school portraits? Again, I have no affiliation with Metro Portraits.

And my response:

Good response Mike! This is why record keeping is very critical. She wrote a check and didnt bother figuring out who exactly was taking her pictures.

What a mess an unfortunately folks will remember that you screwed up even if you were never a part in the whole thing. You might want to follow up with a note or call to the league director making sure he understands that this lady is a bit confused.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

That's what I thought! When she got the cancelled checks couldn't she at least look and see that the person she was talking to was NOT the same as the person she wrote the checks to?

I know, I screwed up, yet I'm the only one that has any inkling what the hell is gong on!

League director has been copied on all emails from me via BCC so he is aware. He called me a little while ago too. He thought there was still a possibility that the checks were deposited by me so I quickly explained how that was not possible. He is considering having the league pay for the pics, but I don't think that is the right thing to do. She needs to understand that neither the league nor myself has done anything wrong here, she is simply confused.

How did you screw up? Maybe the only thing is not responding to the mail quickly, but your not the confused one, she is.

The league director is also my softball "coach" so I'm good there. He asked me to do pictures a few years ago and has been very pleased with my work. I couldn't do the pics this spring so he had someone else come in and he was not impressed at all. He was glad I was back in the fall.
