It amazes me....but it appears that the teachers have some sort of bizarre contract here....they take tons of days off during good weather for "teacher work days" and then every year they have to scramble to make up for the snow days that invariably happen. They have the same 180 day requirement here as in NY....but they start classes a month before NY....and only get out a week earlier. Somebody needs to learn scheduling.
With several schools going to year round near us I suspect it is a way for the state to make the move for all of them. I'm not sure I like the idea of year round school (I think kids need the long break to unwind before "gearing up" to go back), but there are some things that would make it easier for us, not only financially, but also for time.
