Hey gang!
While I'm waiting for some pics from today to download, I'll tell my sordid tale...
I had business with my daughter in our little downtown today, so I brought stuff for some Urban/street photography while I was waiting for her. I had put enough coins in the parking meter for a while, so I went out with my 5DC and my 24-70 to shoot some spring flowers and some little architectural captures, which I like to share with our "Urban Fragments" thread. All good clean fun!
So, I work my way around the area -- churches and government buildings and various structures, and was having the proverbial time of my life and toward the end of my parking time I came to the "Federal Building" office building -- it has some stuff that interested me so I proceeded to get some stuff, ending up in front of the main sign, and I got close enough up on the grass to get what I felt was a pleasing composition and fired away...
Sounds all cool until you register that at this point I was standing on government property, nothing against the law, but of enough interest to bring out a guard who began asking in a very friendly way what was up, and again very nicely explained they are perfectly happy with folks taking pictures of the buildings and such just not security entrances and such and I happily said we're cool, and all was well...
That is, until he got the idea that "just in case" he would ask for my ID. I shrugged "sure, why not?" and, being as I was on government property sure he had the right to do that. And then, he figured just for security's sake he would radio my info in and things got more, well, no problem but I began to be aware of the time passing by. This was not a quick radio in -- it took time for the dispatchers to run my nefarious ID for whatever reason, tick, tick, tick...the friendly banter continued, but several times I said "I sure hope they hurry things up!"
Well, of course, finally he gave me my card back and sauntered into the building and I headed back to my car...back to an expired meter and a parking ticket...
Grrr...
